How to write a professional looking Instagram bio

In this post we're going to show you how to get a professional-looking bio write-up right today. Your Instagram bio is the first thing people are going to see after they have been enticed by some of your images. So let's go through the steps of making it really crisp and really professional and really frankly entertaining to look at. Your Instagram bio isn't very long and the intention span of your instagramers is even shorter. So we've got to break this down piece by piece and and ensure that all of the elements of it are coming together to make a beautiful cohesive bio.
The first thing that people are going to look at I mean let's be honest, it's Instagram based, is your photo. So start with a photo that not only tells a good story but that is well lit and well put together. Your Instagram photo should be something that's either relevant to your business if it's a business profile. Say for example. a logo or maybe your own mug, if it's you of running your business, if you are your brand that kind of a thing. Or if it's a personal Instagram bio, make sure it's a beautiful image of you or something that you love to do. Now, Instagram bio photos you know they can go one of two ways. It can be a portrait of the person who's running the Instagram or it can be something relevant to the Instagram thread. For example if it's a travel thread then it can be some exotic location or some wild and crazy trip with the photo that captured that. If it's a professional money-making thread, it can be again the owner of the company or it can be the company's logo, okay? So you take for example, Nike. If you're going to go check out Nike on Instagram, their Instagram photo isn't going to be of the CEO of Nike because no one would recognize him. Not at least not nearly as many as would recognize the Nike swoosh, alright? So your Instagram bio photo needs to be really, really tuned in and dialed in to what your business is centered around.
Now for any coaches, any personal development mentors out there, I would highly, highly recommend that your Instagram bio cover be you. Because you are your product, you are your brand. If you're running a business of e-commerce selling products and you're really wrapped under a big brand, I would let your brand, your logo, for your Instagram bio cover photo. Something to keep in mind when you're creating Instagram bio photo is that it is going to show up in a round format not a square format. So when you're selecting the photo or when you know picking the logo that would look best for you or work best for you, keep in mind there's going to be some cropping, right? You're going to lose most of those edges and have a round, perfectly round logo area or photo area. So do some test crops. Make sure it looks good before you put it up on your bio because you don't want to have a shoddy bio photo. In an Instagram bio, you only get a few moments to capture some of the attention and you only get a few moments whether before they decide that they're going to read on or just trash it. So don't waste anything. Don't waste that time with a less than amazing photo, okay? Good lighting, great composition, great elements, great logo if you need it. So that's the first element. The second feature of your Instagram bio is going to be the "text of the bio". I mean the body of the bio. I love using the notes feature on my phone to kind of keep an Instagram bio pre-typed ready to go. You know for example for my travel blog on my Instagram, my light travels blog. I have this bio that I keep in my notes section on my phone and I update it. You know whenever I go to a different country, whenever I've got an upcoming trip, whenever I've got another state in the Union that I've checked off my list, I would go into the notes feature of my phone and you say, "oh, I visited 37 out of the 50 states as of today, right? I visited another country or we're going to see you in Cambodia this summer." I'm going to adjust that all in the bio in my notes section, highlight the whole thing, copy and paste it over into my Instagram bio, okay? So I'm not having to to make in Instagram edits. It's just way simpler, okay? Use your notes feature. When we talk about your Instagram bio, you definitely don't want it to be "vanilla". Meaning, just planned, plain Jane, blah! It doesn't capture the attention. The funny thing is, in the industry, in the professional industry, it used to be true, now it used to be true that emojis were considered very unprofessional, right? It was only used by teenagers and young people to just express their selves, right? It's used to be considered that. Nowadays, it's totally flipped around. It's a total 180 experience. Because you have limited space in your Instagram bio, not only a are emojis fun to look at and show your personality, but they're going to save you some character space on your Instagram bio. You don't have a lot of room to work with, so use it wisely. So for example, if I wanted to say I've been to 37 of the 50 states in the United States of America, that's a ton of text right? That's something that can be sweetened and condensed down into probably six or seven characters. I mean number 37/50 and then I just put the United States flag there and so it'll be saying the United States, right? So keep it short. Keep it sweet.

 Make your bio look good.

You have a limited amount of space to entice your audience and pull them in. Give it some personality and put some emojis in there to help you out with that, okay? Now, your Instagram bio, okay? It's not a resume people. Like it's not applying for a job. It's not even applying for business. It's something for you to share yourself with the world. So be relatable. Share something funny and quirky about you. Yeah, be okay sharing your your laundry list as it were of accomplishments you know. Maybe you're a teacher and a rock climber and a millionaire and all of that stuff. Yeah, that's good to include in there. But include something fun and personal about you. So one of my favorite travel instagramers is World Nate. And I follow him on Instagram and he has a fun little Instagram bio and includes his personality and includes his hobbies. You know he loves to surf, he loves a snorkel and he puts that in his Instagram bio. This isn't their resume remember. If you were build a resume, no one would care if you you did those extracurricular activities. But since they're wanting to follow you on Instagram, yeah include it. That's what makes you interesting. That's what makes you unique, okay? In the bottom of your Instagram profile, you're going to want to include a link. Now, there's not room for links inside your Instagram body of your bio. There's a separate space for a link, okay? You can also include an email there if you want, but I like to have a shortened link. You can use Bitly or Google to shorten those links. Just look up how to shorten links with Bitly or Google and you're in your search engine there. And you can get a link sending them directly to your website, sending them directly to your blog, sending them directly to your Facebook profile or wherever you want your landing page to be, okay? So those are essential elements of an Instagram bio. One you've got to make sure your photo is on point. Looks amazing. Two - use your notes feature on your phone to edit your Instagram bio and then put it back in there whenever you would need to update changes and things like that. number three - use emojis. They're fun. They're your friend. They're coming out with new ones all the time. So feel free to use them. Number 4 - be relatable. Remember this isn't a resume. It's kind of more like an interview for do we want to be best friends? do you know do you want to be hanging out with this person because you're going to be spending time with them online, okay? Last one include emails and a shortened link in the bottom of the Instagram bio. if you cover all of those elements of an Instagram bio, not only will it be short and sweet but it's going to keep their attention and drive more and more people to your profile. So go back and look at your Instagram bio. Pull out your phone right now. Just take a glance over. It takes ten minutes maybe to get that thing really fine-tuned.
